Key Responsibilities:

  • Worship Services: Conduct worship services and religious ceremonies in diverse settings, including aboard ships, on bases, and in the field.
  • Spiritual Care: Provide counseling and spiritual guidance to servicemembers and their families during both joyful and challenging times.
  • Religious Education: Oversee religious education programs, such as Sunday school, youth groups, and spiritual retreats.
  • Advisory Role: Advise military leaders on matters of morale, ethics, and spiritual well-being, ensuring that spiritual health is a priority in military operations.

Your work as a Navy Reserve Chaplain will directly support the spiritual needs of servicemembers, helping them stay grounded and resilient as they navigate the challenges of military life.

Flexibility and Opportunities for Reservists:

Serving as a Navy Reserve Officer allows you to continue your civilian ministry while serving part-time. With as few as two days a month and two weeks a year, you can balance your pastoral responsibilities with your military duties. The Navy Reserve offers flexibility, opportunities for additional service, and the chance to make a significant impact on the lives of those who serve our country.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Age: Must be commissioned before the 42nd birthday (age waivers considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from a qualified four-year institution and a graduate degree in theological or related studies from an accredited institution (minimum of 72 semester hours).
  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement: Must obtain an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a religious faith organization registered with the Department of Defense.
  • Experience: Two years of full-time religious leadership experience that’s compatible with the duties of a Religious Ministry Professional (RMP).
