Flexibility and Opportunities for Reservists:

Serving as a Navy Reserve Officer allows you to maintain your civilian medical technology career while serving part-time. With as few as two days a month and two weeks a year, you’ll have the flexibility to balance your professional life with military service. The Navy Reserve offers leadership roles, career advancement, and opportunities to apply your expertise in unique military settings while making a meaningful difference.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen currently practicing in the United States.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus certification of completion of a one-year course of study in medical technology accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).
  • Certification: Must be certified as a medical technologist by a national certifying agency, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the National Certification Agency (NCA) for Medical Laboratory Personnel.
  • Experience: Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a medical technologist. (The NAACLS program completion requirement may be waived if the applicant has at least four years of documented laboratory technician experience.)
  • Age: Must be between the ages of 18 and 41 (age waivers considered on a case-by-case basis).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic Excellence: Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, with an emphasis on major coursework.
  • Supervisory Experience: Prior supervisory experience in a hospital-based clinical laboratory.
  • Clinical Expertise: Experience in blood banking and evidence of continuing education through professional development activities.
