Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the writing and delivery of press releases and reports, providing information to news media and civic organizations.
- Brief military personnel before media engagements and public appearances, ensuring they are well-prepared.
- Oversee the production of content for radio, television, print, and digital media, including managing websites and social media.
- Advise operational commanders on communication strategies and public affairs initiatives to shape vital decisions.
- Manage the work of enlisted personnel, including writers, photographers, videographers, and graphic designers.
- Develop communication plans to support the goals and objectives of your command.
Training and Development:
The US Navy Reserve prioritizes your professional growth. As a Public Affairs Officer, you will receive specialized training, including:
- Officer Development School (5 weeks)
- Defense Information School (DINFOS) Public Affairs Qualification Course: A 6-month online course followed by a 2-week resident course at Fort Meade, MD.
- Continuous education and professional development to ensure your skills remain sharp and relevant throughout your career.

Who We’re Looking For:
We are seeking highly motivated professionals with expertise in public relations, media engagement, and strategic communications. Ideal candidates meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
- Age: Applicants must be at least 21 years old and less than 40 years old at the time of commissioning. Prior qualifying service will be considered for year-for-year credit up to age 50.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field. Candidates with degrees in other fields may be considered if they have suitable experience in public relations or media engagement.
- Security Clearance: Applicants must be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
- Commitment to Excellence: A strong dedication to developing your leadership and communication expertise is essential.
